Accessibility & Inclusion

Hello, you and your body are welcome here!

My aim is to create a space that positively supports the health and wellbeing of people of all body sizes, shapes, weights, backgrounds, genders, ages, sexualities, races, cultures, languages, neurotypes, abilities, disabilities, and identities.

I’m currently renting a room within another business, so I have limited control over the building or shared spaces. However, I’ve made every effort to make the space as accessible and inclusive as possible wherever I can.

Emotional Support Squishmallows

If you have a special squishmallow or cuddly companion that helps you feel calm and supported, you’re more than welcome to bring them to your appointment.

If not, Ally the weighted Axolotl and Steeven the Shark are here and ready for cuddles.

Lighting

The consultation room is gently lit with warm white floor lamps to create a low stimulation, calming environment. There is no overhead fluorescent lighting in this space, which helps reduce sensory overload. The lighting is non-flickering, and desk lamps available if the floor lamps feel too bright.

The waiting area has standard overhead fluorescent lighting, which may be brighter and less suitable for those with sensory sensitivities.

Seating

There are a few seating options available in the consultation room, including a couch, an armchair, a desk with two chairs, and a rug if you prefer sitting on the floor. You’re welcome to choose whatever feels most comfortable for you.

In the waiting area, armchairs are available.

Armchairs: Seat pad measures 50 cm wide by 52 cm deep, with 58 cm between the armrests.

Couch: Seating area is 118 cm wide and 50 cm deep.

Desk chairs: Seating area is 43 cm wide and 43 cm deep.

Weighing

Weighing clients is not a routine part of my practice, and there are no visible scales in the consultation room. In situations where it is medically necessary, such in cases of restrictive eating disorders or unexplained weight loss, weight may be monitored with consent. You will always have the option to decline or to be blind weighed (where the number is not shared), depending on what feels most supportive for you.

Fidgets

A selection of colouring books and fidget tools are available in the consultation room for anyone who finds them helpful for self-regulating, easing stress, or supporting focus during sessions. You’re also very welcome to bring your own sensory tools or fidgets.

Fragrance

The space is generally low-scent and fragrance-free; however, lightly fragranced essential oil room sprays may occasionally be used. If you are sensitive to smells or experience sensory overwhelm from fragrance, please let us know when you fill out the intake form, and we’ll do our best to keep the space as scent-free as possible.

Sound

The consultation room is typically quiet with minimal background noise. Soft, calming music is played in the waiting area and can be turned off on request. You’re very welcome to bring noise-cancelling headphones or other sensory supports that help you feel more comfortable.

Bathroom

There are two cubicles with gendered signs, but you are welcome to use whichever one feels most comfortable for you, regardless of your gender identity.

Wheelchair Access

Unfortunately, the clinic space does not meet the Australian standards for wheelchair accessibility.
